DeMint Unveils 'The American Option: A Jobs Plan That Works'
01/29/2009 - 02:42:07 PM
This week Sen. DeMint unveiled his jobs plan to stimulate real economic growth and create nearly 18 million jobs over the next 10 years. Below is a round-up and links to key documents outlining the plan and contrasting it with the plan President Obama and congressional Democrats are currently pushing on Capitol Hill.
  • SPEECH: "The American Option: A Jobs Plan That Works"
    This bill is not a stimulus, ladies and gentlemen; it is a mugging. It is a fraud. Conservatives who fear proponents of this bill want to inch our economy closer to European-style socialism are kidding themselves. The proponents of this bill want to strap a big rocket on the back of our economy and launch it all the way to Brussels!

    This massive spending bill is fatally flawed. It will not rescue our economy; it will strangle it. That is why this bill must be stopped dead in its tracks. It cannot be fixed in he Senate by adding a few tax cuts or taking away a little spending. It must be scrapped entirely.

    Fortunately, there is another way. A better way. A way that will actually stimulate the economy, spur investment, and create jobs. A way that will permanently keep billions of dollars -- immediately -- in the private sector: in the hands of Americans who buy goods, provide services, start businesses, and hire employees.
  • OP-ED: "A Jobs Plan That Will Work"
    If Obama is serious about wanting a truly bipartisan bill that creates jobs and ignites economic growth, he can prove it this month by including in his package the proven stimulus of long-term, across-the-board tax relief. And if Republicans are serious about winning back the trust of the American people and leading our nation through these difficult times, we can prove it by demanding he do just that.
  • SUMMARY: DeMint Jobs Plan: Nearly 18 Million New Jobs in 10 years
    How it works:
    1. Diffuse the 2011 tax bomb: Stop tax increases set to hit the economy in 2011;
    2. Long term, broad based tax cuts for American families and businesses.
    3. SUMMARY: Democrat 'De-Stimulus' Plan: Not a Jobs Plan, Just a Hodgepodge of Liberal Pet Projects
      • At a total cost of $1.2 trillion to taxpayers, this would be the largest spending bill ever enacted by Congress.
      • Creates over $10,000 in debt for each American family to be paid back in higher taxes for generations.
      • 80 percent of the spending will not occur until 2010 or later.
      • Joint Committee on Taxation staff testified that no jobs could be guaranteed to be created under the Democrat plan.
